Webroute's FAQ
Here is the beginning of a FAQ about Webroute's usage.
[Q] Why do I have an error when I connect to my ISP for the first time ?
[A] When using a modem, Webroute can execute a shell script or a program
that sets up the modem connection. This script will typically launch
pppd or dip. Since pppd returns immediately when
executed, many scripts don't wait for the connection to be established
and return immediately. When Webroute sees that its child process has
finished, it thinks it can access to the Net. You'll notice that if
you wait for the modem to be connected to you ISP, then Webroute will
work correctly. In this case, you need to have a script or program
that returns ONLY when the connection is OK, or when it is known to
be broken (in which case it will return a value of 1).
[Q] Why does Webroute die after the first access ?
[A] You certainly have run Webroute using the -k parameter. This makes
Webroute automatically kill itself after XXX seconds of inactivity
after a request has been processed. If you have specified -k 0, then
it kills immediately after the first request is done. If you want to
disable this feature, simply do not enter the -k parameter.
